Esron Karimuribo is a One Health Epidemiology Professor and Director of postgraduate studies and research at Sokoine University of Agriculture (SUA) based in Morogoro, Tanzania. He also works with the SACIDS Foundation for One Health leading the “One Health Data Sciences, Epidemic Forecasting and Outbreak Analytics” group. Thanks to the Skoll Global Threats Fund and Ending Pandemics for financial support, a team he leads comprising epidemiologists and ICT programmers designed and developed an app called “AfyaData,” which has been rolled out to support disease surveillance in human and animal health sectors in East and southern African countries. On 1st July 2019, the AfyaData won a prize awarded by the Fondation Pierre Fabre based in France. In 2009, he joined SACIDS as postdoctoral research fellow working One Health systems and application of mobile technologies enhance infectious disease surveillance. Esron holds BVM and MVM degrees of SUA and Ph.D. of the University of Reading, UK.
