Professor Yaw Asare Afrane is trained in vector and parasite biology and epidemiology with over 15 years of research experience in vector borne diseases. His research focuses on the biology and ecology of African malaria vectors and the pathogenesis of the malaria parasite. Over the last 15 years, he has carried out malaria vector and parasite research in Ghana and Kenya. He also has a strong interest in the mentoring of young scientists in Africa. His research at the University of Ghana is funded by two grants from the National Institute of Health (NIH): one that seeks to train PhD and junior faculty/scientists from Ghana in vector-borne diseases (D43 TW011513) and another (R01AI123074) on the impact of insecticide resistance on the behavior and fitness of malaria vectors. He has previously been the PI of NIH and WHO-funded grants in the area of malaria epidemiology. He has authored over 70 peer-reviewed publications.
